Redmond High School Gym
The ceiling of the wrestling room in the gymnasium of Redmond High School had spray applied fireproofing that contained asbestos fibers. The ACM fireproofing was applied over all of the steel deck and structural steel joist surfaces. This exposed ceiling could accidentally be hit by flying objects from student activities. The school could not support the estimated cost of abatement by removal and replacement
An encasement system was applied directly over the fireproofing. The room was first contained and put under negative air to prevent the accidental release of asbestos fibers during the encasement process. Using air-less sprayers, a thin coating of SE-110 Penetrating-Stabilizer was first mist applied to seal and stabilize the fireproofing. This was followed by a thicker coat of SE-110 to complete the stabilizing step. This was allowed to dry overnight and was over-coated with SE-120 Protective-Skin top-coat. Choosing this abatement method saved the school over 75% vs. the cost of removal.
