Asbestos Abatement – Case History
Telephone Control Room
Major Midwestern Corporation
Client’s telephone control room has asbestos containing fireproofing on the beams and deck ceiling. Client can not risk water damage to electronic equipment and the control room can’t be shut down as this is the hub for all communications and must be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
Abatement by encasement was chosen because the encasement system can be installed without shutting down or damaging the electronic equipment. All of the sensitive equipment was first protected from over-spray. Next the encasement process was started by airless spray application of SE-110 Penetrating-Stabilizer to seal and stabilize the fireproofing. When dry, SE-120 Protective-Skin topcoat was applied over the areas sealed with SE-110 as this combination forms a tough, monolithic, flexible protective jacket that effectively prevents fiber release. The encasement system was installed without disturbing asbestos fibers.
